Water Project

The women in the village of Thuura faced a very difficult life. Every single day, they had to walk three miles to the nearest river. They did not just do this journey once. They had to walk back and forth several times a day to fetch water for cooking and to wash their family’s clothes.

This heavy chore took up almost all of their time and energy. Because the women spent hours carrying heavy water jugs, they could not do any other work. This meant the whole community lost valuable workers to just one single task.

A New Project Begins

Fortunately, an organization called Imani Kenya stepped in to help. They provided the money for a massive water project. The goal was to build a long pipeline and a water purification system. This system would bring clean water directly from the distant river straight into the village.

The project required a lot of hard work, and the local residents did it all themselves:

  • The women used shovels to dig long, deep trenches in the dirt.
  • The men worked right beside them to lay the heavy water pipes into the ground.

A Big Success

Everyone in the community worked together as a team. After many months of intense, exhausting labor, their dream finally came true. Clean, purified water was successfully piped directly to every single home in the village.

This achievement changed everything. The village no longer had to struggle just to get water. This major success was the perfect first step to help the community grow and make more money. Soon after, the villagers had a brilliant new idea. They decided to use their extra time and water to start farming coffee.
