Our story begins in Meru County, nestled directly on the fertile eastern slopes of Mount Kenya. This special region provides the perfect natural environment for producing world-class specialty coffee. With its high elevations, rich volcanic soils, and abundant rainfall, our land naturally shapes a coffee known for its bright acidity, incredible sweetness, and complex fruit notes. Every single cup we produce proudly reflects this rich Kenyan coffee-growing heritage.

Before our coffee farms existed, the women of Thuura faced a massive daily struggle. They had to walk three miles to the nearest river several times a day just to collect water and wash clothes. This heavy chore took up almost all of their time and energy. Because the community’s available labor was completely consumed by this one critical task, it was impossible for families to find the time to start new businesses or focus on economic growth.

Everything changed when we started the clean water pipeline and purification project. The project brought water directly from the river straight into the heart of the village. The local residents did all of the manual work themselves—with the women digging the deep trenches and the men laying down the pipes. After months of intense teamwork, clean, purified water in every single home became a reality.

With clean water finally secured and daily labor freed up, the brilliant idea for Thuura Coffee Growers was born. We started by training 52 local families in the business of coffee farming and gave them 150 plants each. Soon after, 200 more families joined the project. Today, thousands of coffee trees are thriving in the ground. By connecting our farmers directly to buyers in the United States, we are transforming our local economy and building a brighter future where our children can access higher education.
