The Thuura Coffee Project was born right after clean water finally flowed into the village. With a reliable water supply ready for irrigation, the community realized they had a golden opportunity to grow a valuable cash crop. They no longer had to spend all day carrying water jugs from the river, which freed up plenty of time and labor for farming.
Training the First Groups of Farmers

The project began in steps to ensure that the local families could learn the business of coffee farming correctly:
- The First Group: The project leaders initially selected 52 local families. Experts trained them on how to manage a coffee business. The project then gave each of these families 150 coffee plants to start their farms.
- The Second Group: The first step was a success, so the project expanded. Later, 200 more families received the exact same high-quality training and their own supply of coffee plants.
A Bright Future for the Community
Today, the village is completely transformed. Thanks to the extra free time and hard work, thousands of healthy coffee plants are now growing in the ground.
Even better, the project successfully found a direct buyer market in the United States. Selling directly to the US means the farmers can avoid middle-men and make much more money for their hard work. This steady income empowers the families and builds a strong local economy.
The best part of this success is the impact on the younger generation. The families can now easily afford school fees. Because of this, the children of Thuura can look forward to a much better, higher level of education.
